THE EXTRA BLESSING

There are lots of things that make Jack Daniel's different. A black label. A square bottle. But probably the biggest thing that makes our whiskey unlike any other is the fact that every drop passes through ten feet of sugar maple charcoal before it sees the inside of a barrel. Now, some folks call this the Lincoln County Process, but around Lynchburg, TN, that name might be met with a confused stare. To the locals, it's simply the "extra blessing."

Extra Blessing

Back in Jack's day, most distillers in and around Lynchburg charcoal mellowed their whiskey. But after the Civil War, wood (like everything else) was hard to come by, and nearly all of them decided they could do without this costly and time-consuming extra step. To Jack, though, this was a simple matter of black and white: if something made for a better whiskey that was all he needed to know.
