WELCOME TO THE TRAINING GROUND

Chances are there’s no challenge that the Jack Daniel’s Fire Department will face that Fire Chief Fred Elliot hasn’t thrown at them already. Every Monday, Elliot brings the department volunteers face to face with danger by simulating fire rescue scenarios and preparing his firefighters for anything.

“The times we go out on the training field,” Elliot says, “when we have a fire in the burn tower, or the elevated tank…it’s a lot of fun. The more time and effort it takes, the more fun it is.” To most folks, “fun” might not seem like the best way to describe search and rescue training or charging into a burning warehouse. But Elliot has never seen it that way. “What better place is there to come to work?” Elliot asks, with a grin.
