MISS MARY BOBO

The lovely white Greek Revival building facing the town square was already a well-regarded boardinghouse in the late 19th century, but after Miss Mary Bobo and her husband bought the establishment in 1908, it quickly became a Southern institution. Miss Mary might’ve left us in 1983 (just shy of her 102nd birthday), but her legendary brand of Southern hospitality lives on - as does the secret ingredient in many of her recipes.

LYNNE TOLLEY

The great-grandniece of Jack Daniel succeeded Miss Mary as Proprietress of the boardinghouse in the early 1980s and stayed in that role for nearly 30 years until 2014. Under her leadership, the restaurant expanded from four dining rooms to nine. Lynne may no longer be a daily fixture at Miss Mary Bobo's Restaurant but as a Jack Daniel’s Master Taster and Brand Ambassador, she remains close to her Lynchburg home.

Debbie Baxter

Ever fond of pranks, dessert, and Western romance novels with good cowboy characters, Debbie Baxter was named Proprietress of the boardinghouse in 2014. She cut her teeth under the watchful eye of Mary Bobo herself in 1978, before returning in 1997 to lend a hand to Lynne Tolley. She has an unmistakable knack for connecting with all who cross her path—from the chef and kitchen staff, to gift shop attendants and restaurant guests.
